About Us
"What kind of music do you boys play?"

The answer of course is Rock & Roll, and generations of it!

The Sons are a very versatile band with a very diverse repertoire playing almost everything from Elvis to AC/DC...

Having spent 25 years playing music across Australasia from small cafes, to pubs, 5 star hotels, and big stage festivals,

The Sons have a LOOOONG list of over 200 songs to suit almost every crowd...

(just not really the kids who are only into rap, EDM, and bullshit music made with apps and AI)

Born of blood, sweat, and rock & roll, The Sons are brothers Don, Josh, and Jake Pancho — a three-piece rock & roll powerhouse delivering high-energy shows fueled by raw musicianship, tight harmonies, and serious attitude. Based in Auckland, their sound was forged on stages far beyond their hometown.

Cutting their teeth since the early 2000s, The Sons have played bars, pubs, cafés, hotels, and major festivals across New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and the Philippines, earning a reputation for electrifying live performances. Their sound is rooted in classic rock & roll, cranked up with a hard-hitting, modern edge.

Their repertoire reads like a rock & roll hall of fame — Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, CCR, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, Eagles, Traveling Wilburys, INXS, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Guns N’ Roses, ZZ Top, Queen, Billy Idol, Neil Diamond, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Creed, Nickelback, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Incubus, Coldplay, Blink-182, Green Day, The White Stripes, Oasis, Audioslave, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, and many more — all reimagined with The Sons’ unmistakable punch. In 2024, The Sons released Nu’ Rock & Roll Vol. 1, an album of 50s and 60s classics reborn with their own heavy flavour, now streaming on all major digital platforms. They’re currently working on one — possibly two — more albums spanning other decades.

The band also delivers top-tier production, using primarily digital guitar, bass, and drum rigs to achieve pristine, studio-quality audio that sound just like the original records. Powered by a mighty PA system, their show can be cranked to earthquake levels or dialed back for comfortable table conversation. Add to that a dynamic, world-class lighting show featuring haze, movers, and lasers, unmatched by any other local act,  rivaling touring-level production.

All three brothers sing and harmonize, with Jake unleashing lightning-fast guitar solos, Josh driving the band with thunderous drums, and Don laying down a massive, grooving bass foundation.

The Sons don’t just play rock & roll — they deliver a show like no other.

For smaller or quieter venues, Jake delivers a solo acoustic show like no other. Reworking much of The Sons’ setlist into stripped-back acoustic versions, he also slips in modern pop favourites his two older brothers conveniently avoid — including Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Benson Boone, George Ezra, James Arthur, Bastille, OneRepublic, and Robbie Williams — alongside classic folk from Cat Stevens, Don McLean, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, and Eric Clapton.

Armed with a looper, a custom percussion-sampling guitar system, lightning-fast fingerstyle technique, and an exceptional vocal range spanning high-tenor to bass-baritone, Jake creates a sound that’s full, punchy, and relentlessly engaging. He builds beats, bass lines, rhythm, and lead parts live and on the fly, delivering a true one-man-band performance with no pre-recorded backing tracks.

As a standout feature, Jake also performs rock-flamenco pieces inspired by Rodrigo y Gabriela, blending galloping rhythm techniques, Latin-influenced shredding, and explosive guitar percussion — a style rarely attempted, and virtually unseen, in New Zealand.

From laid-back café atmospheres to standing-room, high-energy acoustic shows, Jake’s solo performances adapt effortlessly to the room — and always leave a lasting impression.
